China’s New Courtship in South Sudan

This report reviews the evolution of Chinese policy on South Sudan and recent expansion of relations between the two, explores their mutual interest in economic cooperation and reviews the role of oil as a centrepiece in relations with China, as well as a source of conflict.

The CSRF, hosted by Saferworld and swisspeace, was established in 2016 to support the aid sector in South Sudan to be more conflict-sensitive. We provide analysis, convene discussions, share learning, and support capacities to strengthen positive contributions to peace and reduce the risks of unintended harm. Together we are building a movement for better aid in South Sudan.
