This paper provides an overview of key dilemmas and challenges faced by UNMISS since 2011. The paper outlines some of the issues that the new UNSC mandate for UNMISS will have to come to terms with. It does this on the basis of the UN’s experience in South Sudan over the past few years.

The CSRF, hosted by Saferworld and swisspeace, was established in 2016 to support the aid sector in South Sudan to be more conflict-sensitive. We provide analysis, convene discussions, share learning, and support capacities to strengthen positive contributions to peace and reduce the risks of unintended harm. Together we are building a movement for better aid in South Sudan.
